William Anders, a former astronaut and member of the Apollo 8 crew, has died in a plane crash in Colorado. He was 85 years old.
Anders was born in Hong Kong in 1933. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1955 and served as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force.
In 1963, Anders was selected by NASA to become an astronaut. He flew on the Apollo 8 mission in 1968, which was the first crewed mission to orbit the moon.
After leaving NASA, Anders worked as a consultant and businessman. He also served on the board of directors of several companies, including Boeing and Lockheed Martin.
Anders is survived by his wife, Valerie, and their three children.
