Barcelona and PSG schedule talks over Kylian Mbappé transfer
Enrique returns to haunt former club as Barça dump PSG out of Champions League
Mbappé closer to Camp Nou move than Bernabéu, say reports
Luis Enrique returned to the Camp Nou stadium on Tuesday night to knock his former club out of the Champions League, as his Villarreal side defeated Barcelona 2-1 in the second leg of their semi-final tie.
The result means that Villarreal will now face Bayern Munich in the final, while Barcelona's hopes of winning a treble this season are over.
Kylian Mbappé was largely marked out of the game by Barcelona's defence, and the French forward cut a frustrated figure for much of the match.
After the game, Mbappé was quick to praise Barcelona's young team, saying that they had "showed plenty of strength in adversity".
Meanwhile, Barcelona are now preparing their financial muscle to sign Mbappé this summer, and believe they have the edge over Real Madrid in the race for his signature.
The Catalan giants are reportedly willing to offer Mbappé a salary of €50 million per year, which would make him the highest-paid player in the world.
However, PSG are also determined to keep Mbappé, and are said to be preparing a counter-offer of their own.
The transfer saga is set to continue for some time, but it is clear that Barcelona are now in the driving seat.
